Catch up with An Adventure In Space Of Time, our drama telling the story of the birth of Doctor Who, and the people who created it, with BBC iPlayer here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p01kqt9x
This scene just punched me in the gut. The only thing I could think - while crying my heart out - was ‘I wish this had actually happened, that William Hartnell could have seen what the programme would become, how after 50 years it was still going and touching so many people’. How people today recognise the enormous role he played in making the programme last, making it something unique and special. How there are still people who fall in love with his Doctor and, if they ever had the chance, would so very dearly want to tell him what he means to them. Mark Gatiss did a magnificent job with this, a wonderful tribute to the origin of Doctor Who.
